Needs Assessment of Families, Health Professionals and the Public for a National Education Center on Alzheimer's Disease (A-DEAR Center) and Development of a Strategy Plan

For the National Institute on Aging (NIA), NOVA staff conducted focus groups with the general public; and with African American and Hispanic caregivers, particularly in urban areas; whose families had a member with Alzheimer's disease. Using a structured discussion guide prepared in collaboration with NIA staff, NOVA collected information related to Alzheimer's disease and the need for and usefulness of a national Alzheimer's disease center. Using the qualitative data collected through this process, NOVA staff, in collaboration with NIA staff and Alzheimer's disease experts, formulated a comprehensive strategy plan for a national center that would meet identified needs, and an implementation plan and budget for the first 5-years of the ADEAR Center's development and operation.
