Support Services for the NCI Division of Extramural Activities (DEA)
NOVA's science writers have provided technical support to the National Cancer Advisory Board (NCAB) and the Board of Scientific Advisors (BSA) under the aegis of the DEA. The NCAB is responsible for conducting the second-level review of grants and cooperative agreements and advising the NCI Director on policy for the conduct of the National Cancer Program. The BSA is responsible for concept approval and oversight of the Institute's extramural programs; its advisory role is scientific and does not extend to deliberation on matters of public policy. From 2000 to 2003, NOVA staff prepared numerous action items and summary minutes of NCAB and BSA meetings. NOVA's science writers also served as Scientific Review Administrators for the Middle East Cancer Consortium (MECC) Small Grants Program, recruiting reviewers, tracking and distributing applications, compiling reviewers' comments, and writing summary statements.
