Which Modules Do I Need?

QDS™ is modularized so you can purchase only those components you plan to use. Should your plans change, you can add modules in the future.

Questionnaire Design
Typically, you will need at least one copy of the Design Studio. You should purchase one Design Studio module for each researcher who will be using QDS™ to design questionnaires. The Design Studio is where you describe everything about your questionnaire—the questions, valid ranges, skip patterns, consistency checks, etc. You might think of this as programming, but it's more like filling out forms. There is no programming required to use QDS.

Data Collection
You will need to purchase data collection licenses/modules for each workstation used for data entry, CAPI interviewing, HAPI™ interviewing, or ACASI interviewing. The modules may be used for questionnaires created with the Design Studio, and may be reused for any future questionnaires. For example, if you are using only paper questionnaires keyed at two data entry stations, you need two data entry modules, regardless of the number of questionnaires you are using or the number of interviews conducted. If you are doing only CAPI interviews, you need one CAPI module for each computer being used to conduct interviews, regardless of the number of different questionnaires being used.

Data Management
Data Management functions are performed by the Warehouse Manager module. If you are not involved in multisite studies, you will probably need only one Warehouse Manager. For multisites studies, you may want to install one Warehouse Manager at each study site and one at the data coordinating center. However, many multisite studies opt to have only one central warehouse.
